1. Overview
This Refund Policy explains when and how you can get a refund for a kott paid licence or Plan. It works together with our Terms of Service. We sell every kott purchase ourselves, so there is only one refund path and no third-party reseller’s terms sit on top of this policy (see Section 2). Nothing here removes any non-waivable statutory right you have as a consumer (see Section 3).
2. Who sold you your purchase — and who refunds it
We are the seller for every kott purchase, and we refund it ourselves. That covers the paid kott licence — which is one licence for both the browser studio and Kott for macOS — and every earlier paid Plan or license we no longer sell. Your receipt comes from kott.
We use Stripe as our payment processor. Stripe is not a merchant of record and is not the seller — it processes the card transaction on our behalf. Because no reseller stands between us, we are the seller of record, we are responsible for our own tax collection and remittance, and we process refunds ourselves, returning the money to your original payment method through Stripe. The charge and any credit appear on your statement from us, and no third-party buyer terms apply to your kott purchase.
You do not need to work out any of this before writing to us: contact us (Section 7) and we will handle it.
3. EU / UK statutory right of withdrawal (digital services)
If you are a consumer in the EU or the UK, you normally have 14 days to withdraw from a distance purchase of digital content or a digital service, without giving a reason. Because kott is delivered digitally and gives you immediate access, the following applies:
Consent to immediate performance & loss of the withdrawal right. When you buy a paid Plan and start using the paid features straight away, you are asked to expressly consent to us beginning the service immediately and to acknowledge that, once the service has been fully performed (or, for digital content supplied on a non-tangible medium, once supply has begun with your consent), you lose your 14-day right of withdrawal to the extent the law provides. If the service has only been partly performed when you withdraw within the 14-day window, you may owe an amount proportionate to what was provided up to that point. Where you have not consented to immediate performance, or the conditions for loss of the right are not met, your full 14-day withdrawal right applies and we will refund you.
In practice this rarely matters for kott, because the 14-day refund window in Section 4 is offered on the same timescale as the statutory withdrawal period and we apply it whether or not the withdrawal right has been lost.
To withdraw within the 14-day window, contact us (Section 7). We will process any refund due without undue delay and within the statutory period.
4. Subscriptions — goodwill refunds & cancellation
We no longer sell subscription Plans. This Section governs any kott Pro subscription you hold or buy, for as long as it is running.
Because kott Free lets you evaluate the full engine at no cost before paying, paid subscription periods are generally non-refundable once the period has begun, except (a) where a refund is required by law (including Section 3), or (b) under the goodwill window below, or (c) at our discretion.
Goodwill window. As a courtesy, if you contact us within 14 days of a charge and you have not made substantial use of the paid features in that period, we will generally refund that charge. We issue the refund ourselves, through Stripe, to your original payment method.
Cancellation vs. refund.Cancelling stops future renewals but is not itself a refund of the current period; your paid access continues until the end of the period already paid for. You can cancel any time from your billing portal (Account → Manage billing). See Terms §5.
5. The Founder license (no longer sold)
The Founder license was a one-time $99 purchase made on kott.io. It is no longer offered; this Section stays for the people who hold one. It was sold by us, with Stripe as payment processor — so Section 2 applies and we handle the refund ourselves. It is not a subscription: there is nothing to renew and nothing to cancel.
Full refund within 14 days of purchase, as stated on the pricing page when it was sold, in addition to any statutory withdrawal right under Section 3. Because the Founder license grants immediate access to the paid feature set, the immediate-performance wording in Section 3 also applies. Refunding a Founder purchase ends the Pro access it granted, and revokes the Kott for macOS license key included with it (Section 6).
6. The kott licence, and Kott for macOS — 14-day refund
The paid kott licence is a one-time purchase covering both the browser studio and Kott for macOS — $39 through the end of 13 September 2026, $59 after that. We sell it ourselves (Section 2). We offer a 14-day, no-questions-asked refund: request one within 14 days of purchase and we refund it in full, back to your original payment method. This is in addition to any statutory withdrawal right under Section 3.
The same 14-day refund applies to a separately purchased Kott for macOS license from the period when the desktop app was sold on its own at $49. Those purchases were also sold by us, and we refund them the same way.
A refund revokes your license key. Because the desktop license is tied to a license key, refunding a purchase revokes that key. Once the key is revoked, its activation stops working and the app will no longer run under that key — so please only request a refund if you intend to stop using the app. Refunding the kott licence also ends the paid access it granted in the browser studio, because it is one licence covering both. The same applies to a chargeback (Section 8). This is described in the Kott for macOS License Agreement.
To request a refund, contact us (Section 7).
7. How to request a refund
Email support@kott.io from the address you bought with, with the charge date and amount from your receipt, and tell us why you are requesting a refund. We process the refund ourselves, back to your original payment method. We aim to acknowledge requests promptly and to process approved refunds within the timeframe required by law.
8. Chargebacks
If you do not recognize a charge or have a billing problem, please contact us first — we can usually resolve it faster than a bank dispute. Filing a chargeback with your bank instead of contacting us may lead to suspension of the affected Account or license while we investigate the dispute, and a chargeback revokes a macOS license key (Section 6). This does not affect your statutory rights or your right to dispute genuinely unauthorized transactions.
9. Your statutory rights are preserved
Nothing in this policy limits or excludes any non-waivable consumer right you have under the law of your country of residence — including EU/UK withdrawal and conformity rights and the consumer guarantees under the Australian Consumer Law. Where such a right applies, it takes precedence over this policy. See Terms §17.
