Is the free tier a trial?
No. kott Free is perpetual freemium, not a trial. You get the whole engine at full quality — layers, text, shapes, webcam/video and on-device vision — and every effect previews on your own image. A free set exports without paying, one recognisable classic from each of the big families. Free export is a clean 1080p; the small corner mark only appears without an account.
Can I record video?
Yes — REC captures the live canvas as an MP4 with audio in sync, whether the source is your webcam, an uploaded video or a still you are animating. Recording is included on every plan; a look that uses paid effects needs the licence to record. The capture follows your window size, so make the window big before you hit REC.
What does the licence unlock?
Export of every effect in the catalogue, 4K stills, projector mode for live output, unlimited saved presets, explicit commercial rights, and the native macOS app. One payment, both the web studio and the Mac app, no renewal.
Is the macOS app included?
Yes. It used to be a separate $49 purchase; it is not any more. One licence covers the web studio and the Mac app — a native, fully offline build with every effect, font and vision model bundled, no account and no tracking, and free updates for life.
Do I need an account to buy?
No. Checkout takes an email and nothing else, and your licence key arrives on the confirmation page and by email. Make an account whenever you like and redeem the key there to unlock the web studio on it; the Mac app never needs one.
Is it really one payment?
Yes. There is no subscription and no renewal — kott used to sell one and does not any more. It is $39 until the end of 13 September, then $59; buying at the launch price does not change what you get. Future major versions may be paid upgrades, and this licence never expires.
Can I get a refund?
Yes — a full 14-day refund, no reasoning required. Refunding disables the licence key and returns the account to the free tier, which stays usable forever. The Refund Policy has the detail.
Which effects are paid?
Most of the catalogue. Free keeps one classic from each big family; the licence adds everything else — the full dither set, the VHS and glitch suite, slit-scan, neon edge glow, pencil sketch, the gradient studio and particle render, and the audio-reactive visualisers built for live sets. Every locked effect stays visible in the studio, so you can always see what you’d unlock.
Do you need my camera footage?
No. Webcam and microphone processing runs 100% on-device in your browser. Frames are processed transiently and never transmitted or stored. See the Privacy policy for the Camera & Microphone details.
